What is Genital Herpes?
Genital Herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI)caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)—usually type 2 (HSV-2), but sometimes type 1 (HSV-1). After the initial infection, the virus stays in the body and can cause recurrent outbreaks.
Most people with herpes may not know they have it, but they can still spread the virus to partners—even when symptoms aren’t present.
While there is no cure, antiviral medication can significantly reduce outbreaks and transmission risk.

- Tingling, burning, or itching before a sore appears
- Pain with urination or sex
- Swollen lymph nodes in the groin
- Fever, fatigue, or flu-like symptoms during initial outbreak
